Born in 1928, Serge Gainsbourg was one of the biggest stars in French music in the second half of the 20th Century.
Creator by definition, Serge was brilliantly inspired by other people’s work to enrich his own compositions especially with classical music. In his day, one could not strictly speaking of sampling but the process was similar. Serge never stopped borrowing, quoting, modifying and remixing his songs which now serve the repertoire of artists like EPMD, Busta Rhymes, Mc Solaar
or De La Soul.
Saneyes added himself as well into the equation by digging in some of the treasures offered by Gainsbourg. Far from stealing, “You’re under arrest” is a sincere tribute to the pioneering genius whose music is here revisited and updated; an obvious follow-up to an unfinished work....more
